AEP OHIO SIGNS LONG-TERM PACT TO PURCHASE
SOLAR ENERGY FROM WYANDOT SOLAR

AEP Ohio Press Release

Solar energy farm slated between AEP, county
By BRANDON DRAKE
Daily Chief-Union
Staff writer

Wyandot County will be on the "cutting edge" of alternative energy after plans were unveiled for a solar energy farm to be constructed on approximately 80 acres of county-owned land in Salem Township. American Electric Power of Ohio announced Monday it had signed a long-term power purchase agreement for solar energy with Wyandot Solar LLC, a subsidiary of juwi solar Inc., a Boulder, Colo.-based company.

Through the 20-year agreement, AEP Ohio will purchase all of the output, including renewable energy credits, from the 10.08-megawatt Wyandot Solar facility to be located adjacent to AEP Ohio's north Upper Sandusky substation located off of CH 44 and Ohio 199, according to an AEP Ohio press release. The Wyandot County Commissioners and Wyandot County Economic Development director Eric Romich affirmed the project Monday morning.  "For the first time, you're going to have people looking at Wyandot County as being the leader in something," Romich said. "This is the first solar generation facility of this size in the Midwest.  "When you think about Wyandot County and using the word cutting edge technology, your research and development-based technologies, having a project of this magnitude is obviously advantageous to the reputation of this county from outsiders looking in both at the state and national levels," he said.

Construction for the project will begin in November and the facility is expected to be in commercial operation by mid-summer 2010, the press release stated. The project will consist of 160,000 modules that are being supplied by First Solar Inc., a Perrysburg company that manufactures solar modules.  "From our point, where we're enthused about it is the potential for the future," Commissioner Mike Wheeler said. "The bottom line is we're trying anywhere we can to generate some good." ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
