CGS Awarded Funds for New Training System

The Greater Ohio Workforce Board has announced the approval of funds for Custom Glass Solutions’ (CGS) Incumbent Worker Training application.  The $373,765 award will continue their intensive training and certificate program, which was rolled out last year.

Further funding approval was given based on the retention rate of those who received a training certificate in 2021, the average wage increases at both its Upper Sandusky and Fostoria facilities, and CGS’ commitment to larger wage increases this year.

According to a press release from the company, the new workforce system is an innovative, standardized approach making it possible for the company to document training progress more accurately, provide metrics to measure and improve outcomes and engage the workforce more fully by providing credentialing opportunities to its production workers.  Once certified, lead trainers document that an employee has mastery of 50 percent of the job classification’s tasks, they are recognized for their achievement and are again recognized when they master all the tasks the job classification requires.

CGS plans to broaden the structured on-the-job training programs into registered apprenticeships (2 positions are in the application process) and structured internships – providing even more credentialling opportunities to its employees and future employees.
